BASE64 RADAR // DATA URI RECONSTRUCTION & CLIENT-SIDE BINARY DECODING
Technical specifications of RFC 2397 Data URLs, MIME type detection signatures, and in-memory canvas pipelines.
Anatomy of an RFC 2397 Data URI
The Data Uniform Resource Identifier scheme enables arbitrary resources (such as raster images and SVG graphics) to be directly embedded inline into HTML documents or CSS stylesheets:
- Scheme Syntax:
data:[<mediatype>][;base64],<data>. - Magic Byte Signatures: Even when the MIME header is stripped, the leading Base64 characters reveal file type:
iVBORw0KGgodenotes PNG,/9j/denotes JPEG,UklGRdenotes WebP, andR0lGODdenotes GIF. - Payload Expansion: Base64 encodes 3 binary bytes into 4 ASCII symbols, producing an intrinsic ~33% payload expansion over raw binary formats.
Performance Best Practices
Inline Base64 images eliminate round-trip HTTP requests (ideal for critical above-the-fold icons and micro-favicons), but should be applied judiciously:
- Cache Inefficiency: When embedded inside HTML, Base64 images cannot be cached independently of the webpage itself.
- Memory Allocation: Large images (> 2 MB) embedded as Base64 cause heavy browser thread parsing overhead compared to streaming binaries.
Airgap Zero-Log Privacy Architecture
Base64 Radar performs all image rendering, dimension sampling, and file downloads strictly within the client sandbox memory. No confidential screenshots, medical imaging, or raster graphics are ever uploaded to cloud endpoints.
